Strides for Shelter 5k and Fun Run
Strides for Shelter is presented by the CANOPY HOUSING FOUNDATION
Our 2025 race beneficiary is Project Outpour, a local non-profit that provides opportunities to shower our homeless neighbors with support and dignity. Project Outpour made a bold move, with the support of the Canopy Realtors®, to purchase a new truck to keep their mobile shower services rolling without interruption.
Proceeds from the 2025 Strides for Shelter event will ensure that this organization can transport their mobile shower unit to five area locations providing critical hygiene services annually to 3,500 individuals and families. We didn't wait to act - because our neighbors couldn't wait to shower.
Throughout the eight year history of Strides for Shelter, the Canopy Housing Foundation has donated over $212,000 to eight different beneficiary organizations.

Miles That Matter 5K
Miles That Matter 5K - Because Every Step Can Change A Life
This race is personal.
Miles 2 Hearts was born from the eyes of a truck driver who saw more than just highways - he saw people hurting, forgotten, and alone on streets across the country. Instead of looking away, he decided to take action. That action became a mission. That mission became a movement.
Miles That Matter 5K isn't just a race - it's a call to the community to care deeper, to step forward, and to run with heart.
Every registration helps us create kits for our unhoused neighbors.
Every mile covered helps us reach someone who feels unseen.
Every person who shows up is part of the healing.
This year, our goal is to deliver 100 care kits directly into the hands of those who need them most.
1 Registration = 1 Care Kit to someone experiencing homelessness

Western North Carolina still faces serious challenges as the area recovers from the devastating impact of Hurricane Helene. Many area elementary, middle and high schools were damaged or destroyed, displacing students and teachers, disrupting education and the day to day lives of families with school age children. Our goal is to provide financial support to the area school system in an effort to aid and expedite the rebuilding process.
Our event is open to people of all ages and fitness levels! Whether you are aiming to set a personal best on this well-known course or simply looking to enjoy a morning outdoors with friends and family while supporting a worthy cause, we welcome your participation. During this time, the program covers all housing and transportation expenses.
By coming to Community Matters Cafe, you are doing so much more than getting a cup of coffee and enjoying lunch. You are restoring hope in individuals who have lost their way in life because of their addiction. You are reinforcing all of the essential life skills our students are learning and showing them that they have a community that believes in their future.
