Petal to the Medal Endurance Event

This endurance-based run is designed for both seasoned trail runners and those new to the world of ultras, offering an inclusive space to push limits, build community, and experience the beauty of trail running - without the intimidation factor.

Participants will have up to eight hours to complete as many loops as they choose on a 5K trail course at Daniel Stowe Conservancy. Where someone wants to walk a single loop, test themselves for a few hours, or push into ultra territory, this event is about personal challenge and shared experiences rather than speed or competition.

Inspired by the work of Human Powered Movement, this event leans into sustainable race practice while opening doors for new experiences in endurance sports. It's about trying hard things, together.

Community Matters 5K

Community Matters Cafe serves more than coffee and food... it's a place to restore hope. The cafe serves as an extension program of Charlotte Rescue Mission, a nonprofit organization that provides free, residential recovery services to men and women struggling with substance abuse and homelessness.

Graduates of Charlotte Rescue Mission's 120-day recovery program have the opportunity to transition back into the community through the Community Matters Cafe Life Skills Program. This 6-month extension initiative addresses topics such as conflict resolution, expressing concerns, and healthy ways to cope with conflict and stress all within both a classroom and restaurant setting. During this time, the program covers all housing and transportation expenses.

By coming to Community Matters Cafe, you are doing so much more than getting a cup of coffee and enjoying lunch. You are restoring hope in individuals who have lost their way in life because of their addiction. You are reinforcing all of the essential life skills our students are learning and showing them that they have a community that believes in their future.

5K for Kids Cancer

The race that started it all is back in Ballantyne.

The Isabella Santos Foundation 5K for Kids with Cancer, presented by Uwharrie Bank, holds a special place in our history. What began as a grassroots race in Ballantyne helped launch a movement that has since raised more than $19 million for rare pediatric cancer research and family support.

Now, the race returns during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month — bringing our community together once again to celebrate progress, honor the children we fight for and continue pushing the mission forward.

Whether you’re running for a personal best, walking with friends or cheering from the sidelines, this event is about community, impact and hope.

In addition to the 5K and a one-mile Fun Run, the event will feature outdoor activities the whole family will enjoy including a kids zone, bites and brews, local vendors, a silent auction and so much more!

All proceeds will fuel research, clinical trials and family support programs at Levine Children’s Hospital and Novant Hemby Children’s Hospital.

Sarcoma Sucks 5k+

Sarcoma Sucks....but together we can do something about it. Help us take the fight to sarcoma, which is a rare but very aggressive form of cancer that impacts 1% of adult cancers and 15 to 20% of childhood cancers.

This unique run/walk is in memory of three family members we have lost to forms of sarcoma - Jenny Harman, a beloved mother of two that lost her battle three years ago. Last year, we also lost her uncle, Jeff Grose, to another form of this terrible disease. Jenny’s grandmother, Faye Grose, also passed from a rare form of sarcoma. This fight is very personal for our family!

Sarcoma Sucks will have a standard 5k track of 3.1 miles with chip timing by Start 2 Finish, but Jenny's birthday was March 20 (3.20 if you'll go with me on this) - so we will work a little harder and push a little further, just as she did in her fight. We are asking all participants to complete the standard 5k track and finish with a 0.1 mile Memorial Walk. That makes our total 3.20 miles to honor Jenny's birthday, as well as the start of Spring and the new hope that comes with it!

Sarcoma does indeed Suck. Let's join together to fight it and help create more Sarcoma Survivors!
