Trifest for MS

The Trifest for MS triathlon, the largest triathlon in Arkansas, draws people from all over the country to Bentonville to raise money for multiple sclerosis research.

The Rampy MS Research Foundation hosts the event and each year the race raises almost $100,000 towards multiple sclerosis research in Arkansas at UAMS, Northwestern University in Chicago and University of California at San Francisco (UCSF). Since 2012, the Trifest for MS and other foundation activities have raised close to $900,000.

“Most people don’t realize research doctors actually have to raise a lot of money themselves to fund their research,” race founder Scott Rampy told Fox 24 News. “So we would rather keep scientists in their lab coats studying the disease and figuring out how to cure it versus raising money for their research.”

His wife, Jo Rampy was diagnosed with the disease about 20 years ago. She said the organization is a good way to show other people living with the condition, that they’re not alone.

“This illness is progressive,” Jo Rampy said. “We can get lost in that progressiveness. But we don’t. We take our energy and our time, and we place it into a cause that can help others.”

*The events in 2025 will not be USA Triathlon Sanctioned due to the participant one day fee increasing to $21. Instead there is a $7 race insurance charge added during checkout.

Bootlegger Trail Run

The 8th annual Bootlegger 10K trail run will be held on Sunday, February 9th, on upper Creve Coeur Park's Bootlegger's Run trail, which gets its name from the area's notorious reputation during Prohibition. According to one account, "Prohibition brought gamblers and gangsters back and clubhouses, roadhouses, and the notorious Creve Coeur Hotel provided havens for crime.” Another history offers, "Around the 1920's the area began to decline in popularity as gangsters and hoodlums began to frequent the saloons, restaurants, and nightclubs located at the lakefront. By the end of Prohibition, Creve Coeur was almost exclusively a gangster hideout." Today, Creve Coeur Park has regained its pre-Prohibition notoriety as a beautiful locale for enjoying nature. It is regularly filled with St. Louisans running or biking the trails, riding zip lines at Go Ape, sailing or rowing on the lake, or simply having a picnic.

The beautiful Bootlegger 10K course is primarily single-track trail and includes plenty of turns, switchbacks, and hills. Look closely and you may see remnants of the Creve Coeur Lake streetcar line that brought ne'er-do-wells to the area during Prohibition. Add winter weather to that mix and the Bootlegger 10K will surely test your will against Mother Nature at her toughest.

All registrants receive a custom finisher medal, and the option to purchase a commemorative hoodie. Finishers can enjoy snacks and post-race beer.
